Thanks Matt.  I tried SpinRite and ended up asking for a refund.

Steve Gibson hasn't updated the program in 10 years (he's been talking
about "version 6.1" for at least 4 years).

It doesn't play well with > 2TiB drives.  It only seems to recognize the
first 801GiB of the disk, which seems consistent with a 32-bit addressing
problem.  32-bits can address 2.2Tib.  3Tib - 2.2Tib = ~801Gib.

If you have any tricks to get it to work with large drives, I'd be open to
them.
