[TriLUG] HDD may be failing

I've had several crashes on my system and the Disk Utility warns of bad sectors, Reallocated Sector Count, and warns of a possible disk failure. I'm running Debian 7 64-bit.
I'm going out today to buy a new drive but wonder what's the best way to transfer everything to it?  The currect drive is a 1TB but I have 340 GB unallocated. If I use Clonezilla can I write directly to the new drive? I'm guessing it will take quite a while.
