[TriLUG] MySQL strangeness

Is there a periodic backup job that's shutting down the database before 
saving?
I've seen jobs in /etc/cron.d before that shut down databases, copy the 
underlying
data store files, and then restart the database.  (I prefer to run 
something like
mysqldump for that).
