Hmmm... those Dell PowerEdge SC1420
<http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/pedge/en/sc1420_specs.pdf>
towers
might have some promise.

They probably have power-hungry Xeon 7030
<http://ark.intel.com/products/27225/Intel-Xeon-Processor-7030-2M-Cache-2_80-GHz-800-MHz-FSB>
dual-core CPUs, currently. But they support dual CPUs, and I'll bet you
could put a couple of 6-core E7450
<http://ark.intel.com/products/36941/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E7450-12M-Cache-2_40-GHz-1066-MHz-FSB>
CPUs (dirt cheap on eBay
<http://www.ebay.com/sch/CPUs-Processors/164/i.html?_from=R40&_sac=1&_nkw=E7450>)
or X7460 CPUs
<https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Xeon+X7460+%40+2.66GHz&id=2656&cpuCount=2>
in one of those machines.

The E7450 & X7460 are intended for a 1066 FSB, so at 800 MHz FSB they'd be
underclocked by 25%. So 25% slower than normal, but the silver lining is
that if they run, they'd run nice and cool.

With two CPUs, you'd have 12 cores. Add an SSD drive, and with the 8 GB of
ECC RAM you'd have a very decent machine. It'd be slow for single-thread
processes, but total Passmark score around 3500 with E7450s, or Passmark
4800 with X7460s, which isn't bad at all.

Used DDR2 server RAM is almost free on eBay
<http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=ddr2+registered&Form%2520Factor=DIMM&Bus%2520Speed=PC2%252D6400%2520%2528DDR2%252D800%2529&LH_BIN=1&Capacity%2520per%2520Module=2GB&_dcat=170083&_osacat=170083&ssPageName=GSTL&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR12.TRC2.A0.H0.Xserver.TRS0&_nkw=server&_sacat=170083>,
too. These machines are spec'd to be max'd out at 8 GB RAM, but that might
not be true. It is very often possible to put it bigger RAM sticks than
they say you can. It'd be worth trying, anyhow.

I've got too much stuff already, but, really, somebody should be able to
make use of at least the machine with 8 GB RAM.
