What is it connected to? Sounds like that router is the constant in the story.

Subject: [TriLUG] The Case of the insane wifi location

All,

Our church has a wifi hotspot location in our basement ( fellowship
hall ). It connects to a router in our sound room. The wired distance
is approximately 200 feet through conduit.

When first put in, we used a not new wifi router in the fellowship
hall. It developed what I refer to as an insane mode. It is up and
broadcasting, but doesn't connect to the internet. The "repair" was to
power it down for 30 seconds and repower unit.

When this became too aggravating, I replaced with a known good Netgear
router/wifi. It soon developed the same problem. Since the netgear was
also used, I finally replaced with a brand new E900 linksys
router/wifi. Two weeks later, it begins the same problem.

I have used a cable tester on the run and no problems were found at the time.

What is happening? Is it wiring? power fields? Anyone have any ideas.
Does it need a tin foil hat???

I could use power over ethernet to make it easier to reset, but there
are times when the Fellowship hall is being used and no one is
available to do reset.

Any hints would be appreciated.
