i traded my e46 330 sedan to jon felton for this m3 in late august, i'm a sucker for e36 m3/4/5's (this is my third). however it's not really an ideal fit in my fleet so trying to find a good home for it. here are jon's notes on the car: --------------------------------------------------------------- For sale in Richmond VA is my "former daily driver" 9/97 production E36 M3 sedan. I bought it from its second owner in fall 2011 with 122,5xx miles on the clock and have put about 20k mostly highway miles on it since. It has been very reliable, it is mechanically stock and has only become track prepped in the last 12 months or less. Originally it was a garaged NoVA/DC/MD beltway car all its life - I picked this one because of its relatively low mileage, great overall condition, and extensive maintenance records from Curry's. In the last few years it has gotten: clutch, alternator, battery, windshield, front calipers, guibo, engine & trans mounts, metal impeller water pump, thermostat, all fluids including Redline in trans & diff, front pads/rotors, rear pads, 120k service including NGK plugs and oem fuel filter, valve cover gasket set more than once, and other stuff I'm probably forgetting. Synthetic oil & filter have been changed every 5k miles since I've owned the car (Mobil 1 0w40 with Mahle metal top filters) and it has always been run on 93 octane. It has budget coilover suspension, adjustable swaybars, x-brace, stainless brake lines, poly FLCA and RTA bushings, short shifter, rear strut brace and reinforced rear upper shock mounts, stud & nut conversion, bolt-in rollbar, 5 point harness, plus a large & comfortable halo seat. It has been partially gutted in the last few months - no carpet or headliner or interior/trunk trim or stereo or speakers anymore, but the A/C blows ice cold and the cruise control works great and the airbags are intact. It weighs about 2900 empty and last dyno'd 206/213 at Performance Autosport (see link below for video.) It's currently on a dyno reclass of 213 @ 3180 for TTD. Cosmetically it is in good to great shape with no rust, only some small dents/dings/scrapes from nearly 17 years of normal use. The front bumper cover was repainted by the prior owner but I never found any evidence of crash repairs or other paint work. All VIN tags match except the trunk which was recently swapped for a non-wing one from a nearly identical car to get some TT points back. It comes with ten 17x8.5" Kosei K1 wheels, the four on the car currently have good 245 BFG Rivals with plenty of tread left and the rest have old-but-usable-for-HPDE tires (mostly 235 Star Specs.) It comes with fresh Hawk HP Plus pads installed. It comes with any/all spares and stock parts I can find, both front seats, door cards, rear cushions, and more. Also a Bentley manual, setup notes, alignment & dyno sheets, parts & service receipts dating back many years, original owners manual & related paperwork, etc. I have only put it on track a few times, I have also done maybe a half-dozen autocrosses with it. Those who know me know that I'm usually too busy working at the track to drive much, so when I drove this car to an event it was usually just "hop in for 10 minutes of fun when I have time." And that's exactly why it is for sale - honestly it's not worth all the time and expense to me anymore, so I think I'll just rent seats in racecars from now on. But I am also in absolutely no hurry to let it go. It should do 1:27's at Summit as it sits with a good driver and nothing but suspension & tire pressure adjustments. It could be a good mid-to-front-pack TTD car as is depending on region, but it has points left for Hoosiers and could use those plus better suspension/more camber to be a TTD front runner (in mid-atlantic region anyway, ymmv.) Or add cage/kill switch/nets/fire system and go play in GTS2... Known issues are all minor: airbag light is on because seatbelts have been removed. Occasionally rough idle when first started after sitting, clears itself up after ~30 seconds, has done this for as long as I've had the car. Right rear stainless brake hose & hard line on trailing arm were recently replaced trackside with stock stuff. Rear calipers may be dragging slightly or it could just be the fresh HP+ pads that are much thicker than the old stock pads. Unlike many E36 M3s on the market this is a known good car that is ready to drive anywhere anytime, and I will continue to put a few hundred street miles a month on it until it sells. A PPI at a dealership or indy shop, fresh dyno, compression/leakdown, references, and test drives = all no problem locally if a prospective buyer wants to pay for 'em. Clean title in hand, test drives available anytime, transport available. NASA member price $9900 for everything. Can sell seat/mounts/harness and/or extra wheels & tires separately to lower the price, but not interested in separating beyond that. Please inquire via email to jfelton@drivenasa.com (no pm's on here please, I don't always see 'em.) Thanks for looking! ---------------------------------------------------------- additional things i've done since purchasing the car: - the driver halo seat was replaced with a nrg carbon fiber seat, very light and more suitable for street use. - a passenger seat/mounts/harness was installed for a track day but will likely be removed prior to sale. however the harness eyebolts will remain to make reinstallation easy. - i replaced the transmission mounts with stiffer ones, better for track driving and helps eliminate the possibility of a money shift. - improved the swaybar links by adding a couple of spacers as needed and adjusted length to eliminate preload. tested on track, works better now. - koseis have been replaced by 17" icw wheels with nearly full tread 245.40.17 dunlop z101. square setup for improved handling and easier rotation. i did a track event last weekend and it performed flawlessly. plenty of power, rear diff worked extremely well, temps never budged in 90 deg heat, brakes felt great. if you're looking for a clean, straight, well maintained, budget priced street/track car you'd be hard pressed to do much better than this. price - depends on seating and wheel/tire options. anywhere between $7500 with stock seats/belts and icw wheels to $9800 with driver and passenger race seats, mounts, harnesses, and two sets of koseis. contact: jtower at gmail dot com
