This all worked at the end of December...

My Connect Systems CS-800 mobile radio has a fancy USB to 15-pin cable
used for flashing the firmware and programming the radio. Because I've
not been successful in getting the programming software to run under
WINE I've got a Windows 7 VM running in QEMU/KVM (Fedora 25).

When I plug the cable in and redirect the USB device in QEMU over to the
VM Windows gives me a nice "thunk" noise. It is registering the device
in the device manager as a "USB Mass Storage Device" (not sure if this
is what it should be doing) and all looks happy. But I get a
"Communications error, Please retry!" message whenever I try to read
from the radio.

Running the software under WINE gives me the same result.

Here's my troubleshooting:

$ ls -l /dev/disk/by-id

$ sudo file -s /dev/sdb
/dev/sdb: writable, no read permission

$ ll /dev/sdb
brw-rw----. 1 root disk 8, 16 Jan 25 21:34 /dev/sdb

It's the "writable, no read permission" that is concerning me. Anyone
have any ideas about this?

Thanks.
