Abstract:  

Alan Clegg is a regionally-recognized expert in the fields of wired and
wireless computer data security. He is currently a Member, Technical
Staff, with HCS Systems, Inc. (www.hcssystems.com). Alan also consults
through Firehouse Consulting (www.firehouse.net).

Alan has had the RTP community abuzz for more than a year with his
802.11b mapping project in the triangle. Cited on
http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/16589 (referring to Alan as the
"First Wireless Superhero") and seen on http://alan.clegg.com/, his
wireless maps are unique in their accuracy, timeliness, and depth of
meaning for wireless users: that security is a vital element of a
successful wireless implementation. That using "out of the box" settings
is akin to leaving your garage door wide open 24 hours a day. Alan maps
open garage doors in places as varied as Durham, Lowes Motor Speedway,
and the Microsoft Campus in Charlotte.
