  i had a mindspring dial-up account for years, and resisted
getting either DSL or cable modem since, at the time, it would
have required me to use a new email address.

  then TW started selling earthlink service over their cable,
and i jumped on that.  only $20/month *extra* over what i was
already paying just for dialup, and it's been pretty reliable.

  this was in chapel hil,l, by the way.
