SLOW Sybase on Win2k?

Hey guys;

Had a contractor (Pitney Bowes) deliver and install a little Compaq Evo 510
this week. It uses an application that grabs data out of an onboard Sybase
database.

The accesses to the Sybase database seem to be too slow. On the order of
10-15 seconds, worst case. It's so bad that it's slowing down the entire
process that it's a part of. The guys from PB left today without resolving
the problem.

I removed a bunch of useless stuff from the O/S, but there wasn't much
performance improvement at all.

I know nothing about Sybase on Win2k. Can anyone out there shed any light?
Are there "kernel params" I need to twiddle? Some kind of optimum
performance settings? Defragging? Putting the database file on it's own
disk?

Thanks;
