*Title:

Sr UNIX Administrator - 3 month contract in North Carolina's Research Triangle (must be eligible to work in U.S. without sponsorship)

 

*Key Competencies: 

Solaris administration with shell/script programming experience 

RedHat Linux administration 

Legato back-up 

Storage - HP EVA technologies

 

*Primary Job Responsibilities: 

-Provide technical experience in the analysis, design, implementation and maintenance of network-based technology solutions that will ensure optimum performance, availability and recoverability.

-Coordinate/consult with outside vendors on new initiatives and maintenance activities relating to networking technologies.

-Assist in the installation, configuration, administration, and system security of a multi-platform environment which includes Microsoft Windows, Sun Solaris, and Red Hat Linux; adheres to strong systems administration techniques and procedures. 

-Responsible for the backup of data, including automatic backup routines and testing data integrity.

-Perform systems capacity analysis and provides recommendation to management. 

-Maintain minimal system/user downtime.

-Establish and maintain best practices and procedures for patch management, virus management, and operating system upgrades.

-Provide automated system monitoring and reporting.

-Analyze and improve system performance.

-Troubleshoot- system failures and resolve.

-Coordinate/consult with application development and database administrator staff to profile application needs and provide the appropriate environment(s) needed for stability and performance.

-Communicate issues effectively to team members and management.

-Provide professional, courteous customer service.

-Provide incident management, prioritization, and resolution of problems/tasks for users. 

-Participate in documenting policies and procedures and changes made to the networking environment.

-Perform other activities as required to meet the needs of the organization. 

-Participate in the on-call rotation schedule.

 

*Education/Training: 

-Bachelor's degree and 5+ years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

 

*Experience: 

-A minimum of five years related experience with a strong knowledge of network-related hardware/software, related peripherals, practices, policies, and procedures.

-Must have at least three years of progressive Unix System Administration.

-Principle experience with Sun hardware and Sun Solaris Operating System.

-Must have shell/script programming experience.

-Must have experience with enterprise backup systems (Legato is preferred).

-Experience with SAN/NAS storage solution, specifically HP EVA technology.

-Technical proficiency in additional Operating Systems, such as Linux and/or Windows.

-Proven analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities.

-Strong customer service skills, strong interpersonal skills, excellent time management skills, strong documentation skills, advanced technical skills.
