[TriLUG] Sending mail is slow

What version are you using?

Sendmail is setup by default on RedHat to be as slow as it can possibly be.
For one thing, it is set by default to use Ident... Now why in the heck
anyone would do that is beyond me. In your sendmail.cf file find the Ident
time out and change it to zero!

O Timeout.ident=0s

Also, run a local caching Named server on the same machine as sendmail.

Those two tweaks will let sendmail run as fast as Postfix for moderate to
low traffic sites (say under 8k messages a day, sendmail running on a
PIII-450).
