[TriLUG] Certifications

First, best of luck with any of the cert tracks you try!

Next, I actually have the RHCE right now so I can tell you my take based
on that. If you can invest the time and effort, have some previous
Linux admin experience and a box to play with, go ahead and go for the
RHCE. It's tough, but it will help in the job market and in just
helping you pick up the Red Hat way of doing things if you are
interested in that. It will also provide some ideas into how Linux
works in general. Generally the cert is reasonably well respected,
because it's not easy. Also if you fail to get the RHCE you can
possibly still end up with a RHCT. RHCTs are issued to RHCE testers
when they don't pass all the RHCE requirements but do pass the RHCT
requirements.

Now if you are less interested in the Red Hat name and want something
more broad, I'd probably opt for the LPI certs. They have two or three
different levels, and cover much more fundamental Linux ideas that can
be applied to most all distributions. Also the LPI certs may help in
training to later pick up a RHCE if you want it later on. I'm actually
looking into taking the LPI tests sometime soon myself. Wouldn't mind
showing that I'm not locked to the Red Hat only solution.

I personally don't have any knowledge or experience with CompTIA Linux+,
so can't comment there.

Also, I can not afford classroom time for any of these, and will probably end up studying independatly. I would appreciate anyone comments on these certifications, and your experiences with them.
