[TriLUG] hard drive fail

I usually try to boot the computer using Knoppix (http://www.knoppix.net).
Sometimes it will mount the drive long enough for me to burn the files to a
cd using k3b or copy them to another drive. It doesn't always work but it
has bailed me out a few times at work!
