i read something a while back and you could use samba3.

if you're already using active directory partly, why not have a backup
domain controller that's samba3, and your primary win2k3? if you need
help locking down your windows xp machines, i can give you some pointers
:).

So, i know active directory in the windows environment provides a lot of
control over windows clients.

i did some quick searching not to long ago, and i don't think i used the
the right search criteria...

i was just wondering if the list could throw out a few names that would
do the trick?

I'm wanting to have a *nix based server with windows xp based clients in
a domain type setting.
to be more specific... i want to make sure my gfhas no install rights on
the windows pc's

if its not clear on what I'm looking for, ill try to explain better (but
with not realizing even the full power of active directory... I'm
probably not going to get too much further past sketchy.)
