If you're just trying to VNC from home to work or back, you might look
at OpenVPN. It's a very easy-to-configure SSL-based VPN. It handles
the basic routing of your home-to-work network traffic, and nothing
else. After your connection is up, it's a snap to run VNC -- just like
you're there.

OpenVPN can also handle fixed point-to-point connections, like linking
two offices onto a single corporate network.
