[TriLUG] Spectrum Business Class

OK, after my conversation here earlier this week, I got a call from my
Spectrum Account Executive. He wanted to know my concerns. We had a good
discussion and to make a long story short, I am upgrading to a Spectrum
offering of 100Mb down and 10Mb up. Very nice as I run some email and
web servers on my network. I signed the edoc yesterday and they will be
out this afternoon to install. Probably the only thing to do is either
replace the current modem with a new one, or reconfigure the existing one.

I also noticed on the Spectrum web site, while I was checking things
out, that their policy is to *not* block outbound ports such as port 25
for SMTP. This makes hosting my email server an unproblem. It was not a
problem with TWBC, either, but I never saw that policy stated clearly
anywhere.

If this works out well, I also plan to do the same thing with my church,
which now has the same TWBC offering that I do.

The only thing is that they have to game the system a bit. Add a new
service to the bundle to get the price. Then delete the extra service -
assuming I still want to do that - and keep the same pricing for
Internet as the bundle. Pay for 1 month of the extra service and $100
for the installation fee, but with no contract, works for me.

My church will save about $57 per month even with the added service and
around $80 after we drop that TV service. At home my price ends up the
same so I have 4x up and 6.6x down compared to current speeds for a one
time $138 investment.

So I will keep you all posted.
