Which will be inaccessible if you've got a firewall blocking all ports.

The brand of firewall is pretty much irrelevant as long as it's a 
functional, reliable one. I've used a Linksys WRTG54 router for years. It's 
a combined NAT/Firewall/Switch. Only traffic that can get into my PC is on 
the ports I've explicitly opened.

Of course, that does run Linux... Hmmm... :)
