[TriLUG] Interior security camera

Years ago, back when I was in school, I worked in a retail music store.
We noticed that started coming up short periodically, usually $5 or $10
and it occurred to me that we had recently introduced a new employee to
running the register and that it was happening when he was on duty.

The next morning, I was scheduled to work with this employee and I made
sure that I rang the register during the morning.  Just before lunch
time, I sent him out to go get change and while he was gone I balanced
the cash drawer.  When he returned, I told him I was going to lunch and
made sure to take an extra long one.  When I came back, the first thing
I did was balance the drawer again. Low and behold, it was exactly $5
short when it had been dead on before.  He saw me doing this and smiled
at me, but we never spoke of it.

He was fired the next day.

Instead of a camera, are there any 'low tech' solutions, such as I did
above, that you could employ?
